Just a few years ago procedures that would have required several days in the hospital are now being done on an outpatient basis. While we all want to go home as quickly as possible following a procedure, we may be a little apprehensive as well. That is why the outpatient surgery staff at Upstate Carolina spends so much time with patients before surgery. Prior to any procedure, a nurse meets with you, explains the procedure, discusses what to expect, and answers any questions. The nurse also makes arrangements for anything you may need during recovery such as special equipment or medications. You will meet with an anesthesia professional before the procedure as well. Following surgery, you or your caregiver is given complete follow-up instructions. And, just to be sure you have no unaddressed concerns, the nurse, just like any good neighbor, calls to check on you.
