Hospital Releases 2008 Community Calendar
Prepared by: Steve Wong Upstate Carolina Medical Center Marketing Phone 864-487-1515 Upstate Carolina Medical Center has released its annual community calendar for 2008. The wall calendars are free to the public, as long as the supply last. They are available from the hospital’s gift shop and information desk, both of which are located in the main lobby, 8 a.m.-9 p.m. This year’s calendar features color photographs taken by people who have a connection to Cherokee County. The photos range from close-ups of flowers to little girls in dance costumes. Some of the local photographers include Randy Chambers, Yvonne Elmore, Diane Reynolds, Patty Wells Harris, and George Hinchliffe. For three years, Upstate Carolina has produced a community calendar, featuring the creative work of local citizens. The work of high school students was featured in 2007. "This is a really great calendar," Marketing Director Steve Wong. "So far, everyone loves it. At one time, many businesses produced calendars for their customers. That’s not done much anymore. We do it as way to strengthen our ties to the community." This year’s criteria were that all photos had to be submitted by e-mail by people with a connection to Cherokee County. There were about 150 submissions. Next year, only photos of children will be used. "I encourage anyone who has any connection whatsoever with Cherokee County to submit their photos of children," Wong said. "I really, really prefer high-resolution photos sent by e-mail. I cannot guarantee the return of hard copy photos." This year’s judging was done by artist Shane White, graphic artist J Caleb Clark, and hospital executive Austin Brown. All photos were judged and selected without the photographer’s name being made known. “The photos were picked based on artistic value," Wong said. "The judges had no idea who the photographers were or what they submitted." Each year, the calendar is produced in December, to be printed and made available for January. Deadline for submissions for the 2009 calendar is Thanksgiving Day 2008. Photos can be mailed or delivered to the hospital to Wong’s attention: 1530 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, SC 29340. E-mails submissions should be sent to Steve.Wong@UCMC.HMA-Corp.com You may download the calendar in PDF version here. For more information, please call (864) 487-1515. |
