Gaffney Memory Walk Scheduled

There are so many needs in this county, in this state, in this country, and even in this world that it is hard to meet them all. But the Alzheimer’s Association of Cherokee County is desperately seeking your help.

What will you do if you lose your memory? Imagine not even knowing your siblings or your very own child. Imagine your loved one looking you in the face only to see a stranger. Because there is currently no cure, one day you may very well be in that situation. You may think it can’t happen to you but the reality is that it can and to some, it will. Alzheimer’s disease affects one in 10 people over the age of 65 and half of all people over the age of 85.

However, with your support, you can help slow down the process and hopefully find a cure to this horrific disease. The Alzheimer’s Association and members of this community need your help now more than ever because over 1500 members of Cherokee County have Alzheimer’s.

The Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is the signature fundraising event where you can give your support, Saturday, October 27th. Registration starts at 10am in downtown Gaffney at the City of Gaffney Fire Department. The walk begins at 11am. Immediately following the walk there will be food and entertainment provided for all participants. In addition, there will be face painting; children will be able to trick-or-treat in the stores on Limestone Street and side roads. There will also be a pumpkin decorating contest and a costume contest.

Because Alzheimer’s can happen to anyone without warning, and because there is currently no cure, your support is valuable. Will you come out and walk?

The Alzheimer’s Association, the world leader in Alzheimer’s research and support, is the first and largest voluntary health organization dedicated to finding prevention methods, treatments and an eventual cure for Alzheimer’s. The mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research and to enhance care and support for individuals, their families, and caregivers.
