Emergency Blood Drive April 17
Prepared by: Steve Wong Upstate Carolina Medical Center Marketing Phone 864-487-1515 Upstate Carolina Medical Center will sponsor an emergency blood drive Tuesday, April 17, 10 a.m.-7 p.m., in the hospital’s front parking lot. This drive will benefit Evans Hiatt, the husband of Karan Hiatt, who is a paramedic with Upstate Carolina. Mr. Hiatt was recently injured in a car incident and has required several units of blood. "There was already a very serious local blood shortage going on," hospital Marketing Director Steve Wong said. "But when my EMS people told me about the Hiat’’s situation, we decided to act as quickly as possible. Normally, the hospital has a spring blood drive… we’re just doing this one a lot faster because of the extreme need." The basic requirements to be a blood donor are… be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. Anyone who would like to donate that day is asked to call for an assigned time. However, because of the urgent need and expected donations, waiting is a possibility. Please call, 487-4271 to sign up. Upstate Carolina is located at 1530 N. Limestone St., in Gaffney. Take I-85, exit 95.
